The Romanian Carpathians are the wild heart of Europe. The wild landscapes of this mountain range, which stretches across several countries, are the most spectacular in Europe. It is home to two-thirds of Europe’s bear, lynx and wolf populations. In Romania, a single corridor in the Zarand area enables these large carnivores to travel between the western and southern parts of the Carpathians. To save this essential passageway for European biodiversity, an ecological corridor 150 km long, the Zarand Corridor, was created in 2014. Supported by a major European project, the members of Fauna & Flora International (FFI) are protecting this corridor, while ensuring the subsistence of local populations and the installation of infrastructure to boost the region. Director and Sony ambassador Mathieu Le Lay spent a month there to shoot a 43-minute documentary for the Franco-German channel Arte.
