After many solitary wanderings through autumn forests, landscape photographer Alexandre Deschaumes has developed his own world. Guided by the haunting, dreamlike atmospheres of the wilderness, he attempts to transform his emotions into some form of evocative beauty. As he prepares for a new expedition to Patagonia, Alexandre must confront the torments of nature in his quest for the ethereal image.

"The film begins in autumn and ends in winter. From golden flames to the vertigo of white. Spring and summer are not Alexandre Deschaumes' favourite seasons. Too mawkish, too obvious. It's hard to track down beauty. It's beauty that drives this young photographer to the craggy peaks, the gutters of waterfalls and the fringes of glaciers, to seek out the most extreme nature to translate his inner world into images: a lonely world, grandiose and often disturbing, spectral or incandescent, where phantasmagoria reigns. Mathieu Le Lay followed the artist on his travels: Patagonia, Iceland, Argentina... Just as enamoured of light as his subject, editing his images as if creating a rhythm, the director captured the breathtaking landscapes of a wild and regal nature. There is no commentary, apart from the voice-over of the photographer, who, in bits and pieces, tells us about the vital need to frame the most remote places as if we were inventing our own language. Without pretension or grandiloquence, he evokes fear and fascination as the fuel of an art that sometimes imprisons him, sometimes elevates him. You don't necessarily have to share his aesthetic to be caught up in his quest."
