When we talk about deforestation, we hear chainsaws and bulldozers: dehumanised actions that rhyme with excessive profits. None of that here, just the daily pressure of a fishing village on the surrounding forest in north-east Madagascar. Yet the result is similar: the forest is retreating and the problems are multiplying. Through personal accounts, we understand the causes and discover what is at stake in this deforestation.
